We made it onto the Student Volunteer Army website!

In room 7, we have been designing toys for dogs at HUHA as part of the student volunteer army and they loved what we were doing so much that they added our project to their website! How cool! Have a read!

Egg challenge...

In Kea Hub, last week, we were given an egg to take care of for a week. We took this very seriously! The rules were that we had were that our egg had to be with us at all times, unless we had someone "egg-sitting" our egg. We also had to look after our egg by designing and making our egg a bed to live in.
Things we have learnt about caring for an egg for a week:

"I learnt how hard it is to take responsibility for a child" FC
"I learnt that everybody got emotional when the egg cracked, we got used to having our egg and everybody drew a cute face. They hated it when their egg cracked" EC
"I learnt to be responsible and never leave my egg alone" MS
"I learnt if you leave your egg alone, they are probably going to get hurt" AD
"It is hard to have a child. Taking it everywhere and being responsible for it." JK
"I learnt not to take my egg out of its box. Not too handle it too much and care more about it. It is like a person, if you are rough with them, they will get hurt." CSR

A HUGE thanks to our wonderful families who supported us with this! We think we all learnt heaps about ourselves and what it means to be responsible.

Kea Hub camp!

Wow! What an amazing camp experience we had! We worked together, ate yummy food, went on a night walk to a campfire and ate marshmallows, completed camp duties, wrote in our camp diaries, learned from each other and made new friends.
We were so impressed with how Kea Hub students challenged themselves, supported each other, used their manners and gave everything a go.
A HUGE thank you to all our parent supervisors - Norman, Rebecca, Jay, Richard, James, Susan, Will and our lovely Janine who came in to support a group. Another BIG thank you to Mrs Su'a and Mrs Olliver who came on Kea Hub camp as well - you both were awesome and we loved hearing your story Mrs Olliver. A big thanks to YMCA Camp Kaitoke too, it was an incredible camp!

Sharing our art...

Today Room 7 shared some art that we have been creating this week. We got a big, "WOW!" from the audience and that made us feel good! The art used the technique, action painting, and was fun to do. The art was to represent the galaxies that we saw on our trip to Expressions. Some of us used pastels and some used paint. We really want to do it again.

Making a nebula...

Wow! We couldn't believe our eyes when we walked into Expressions on Wednesday and were suddenly surrounded by stars!
We have been finding out about light this week and by visiting Expressions to see the solar system exhibition, it really got us thinking. We want to find out more about our universe!
We really enjoyed making the galaxy jars which look like our very own nebula.
A HUGE big thank you to all of our parent helpers. We could not go on these awesome trips without you.

Learning together

What an awesome start to Term 3 we have had! In Kea Hub we've had a big focus on how we learn together. Do we take turns and let others in our group have a turn to speak? Are we being respectful of other people's opinions? What does learning together look like?
All really deep questions! But Kea Hub took it in their stride during this "fishbowl" activity where we all observe a group working together and then give them feedback on how they went and anything we needed clarifying.

Ka pai Kea Hub! Working and learning together is so important and an important skill to learn.

When Fergusson came to visit..

We had so much fun this morning when some students from Fergusson Intermediate came to take us for tinana (physical education/well being). We learnt a lot about how we can get moving quickly and move to other rotations to keep our tinana fun and exciting. Thanks Fergy for coming to visit us!

A snapshot of Kea Hub Maths this week...

Tuesday was maths with someone for the first half everyone had a partner or more and were playing maths games, writing questions for each other and showing working out to each other. A lot of people we’re in workshops learning with the help of Mrs.C and Mrs.G. After maths with someone, maths writing is where you go onto a device and look on maths hub to find your WALT and learn it using books full of challenges and maths problems from stage 1 to stage 8 and all of the stages in between - AC

We had a visitor today!

We were lucky to have a canine visitor to our class this morning. Golly was very well behaved and got lots and lots of pats. We had a talk about dog safety as well - we should ask the owner first before patting a dog, show the back of our hand to the dog by placing it by their nose so they can sniff it and then gently pat the dog.
Thanks for coming to visit us Golly! Thanks Rachel and Charli too for introducing him to our class.
